Established by Congress in 1986 to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation operates an educational scholarship program designed to provide opportunities for American undergraduate students with excellent academic records and outstanding potential. Goldwater Scholarships support study in the fields of mathematics, engineering and the natural sciences as preparation for careers in these areas. The Foundation will award up to 300 Goldwater Scholarships to students who will be college Juniors or Seniors. Awards are made on the basis of merit.
Each award covers eligible expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Goldwater Scholars are eligible for one or two years of support.
Eligible are current full-time Sophomores and Juniors who intend to pursue careers in mathematics, engineering or the natural sciences. It is expected that Goldwater Scholars will pursue advanced degrees. Candidates who intend to study medicine are eligible if they plan a career in research rather than a career in private medical practice.
Applicants must have a college grade point average of at least "B", rank in the top quarter of their class, and must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or U.S. nationals. In selecting the award recipients, the candidate's field of study and career objectives will be considered, as will the extent to which the candidate has demonstrated the commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to his or her field. Financial need is not a criterion for selection.
Applicant must demonstrate high academic achievement and seriousness of purpose in the health professions field.
Stipends are $39,000 (first year), $40,100 (second year), and $42,300 (optional third year). Research expenses of $3,500 per year are available, as well. (Indirect costs not allowed.) U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required.
These awards are offered to M.D.s, Ph.D.s, and M.D./Ph.D.s interested in conducting basic or clinical research related to cystic fibrosis. Awards are offered through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s network of research centers, or through individual applications submitted to the Foundation.

The Amazon Career Choice Program is an innovative program designed to expand the choices available to our associates in their future career, whether that's at Amazon or in another industry. Many Associates will choose to build a career at Amazon. For others, a job at Amazon may be the first step in a career path in another industry. The Amazon Career Choice Program provides associates with a resource for building the job skills needed for today's most in-demand and well-paying careers such as medical laboratory science, dental hygiene, nursing, to name a few.
Unlike traditional tuition reimbursement programs, we exclusively fund education only in areas that are well-paying and in high demand according to sources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and we fund those areas regardless of whether those skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. In addition, the Amazon Career Choice Program will pay tuition and fees in advance rather than reimbursement after the completion of the course.
The Amazon Career Choice Program will pre-pay 95% of tuition and associated fees at accredited schools for courses that lead to technical and vocational certifications or associate's degrees in eligible in-demand health care and other fields.
This program focuses on technical and vocation training programs and does not apply to Bachelors or Master's degree coursework.
