Welcome to the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Riley Hospital for Children. In this package you will find all the details for the summer internship program. We have designed this program for you to get acquainted with Biomedical Research and some of the career paths that you can take in this field. This is an unpaid internship. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
For the 10 weeks of the internship you will primarily be exposed to and conduct biomedical research in the laboratory you have been selected for. You will design and execute a research project in close consultation with your mentor. Students are expected to participate in research for at least 40 hours per week. Before you start your research, the internship program will conduct laboratory safety training and you will complete a short test. Most laboratories hold their own specific weekly meetings, please check with your mentor regarding the locations and times for these meetings.
Close to the end of the 10 week period you are expected to submit an Abstract describing the research you have conducted during the summer. A symposium will be held on August 5th and 6th where you will give an oral presentation describing your summer project.
This program is designed for Undergraduate and Graduate students in a science major. High School Students (seniors) may also apply. Per Environmental Health and Safety guidelines, persons must be 18 years of age to work in the laboratories.
