Minority Access to Research Careers (M.A.R.C) Undergraduate Training in Academic Research-(U*STAR)

MARC U-STAR Scholars will participate in:

  • extensive academic research with a faculty mentor;
  • conference presentations;
  • seminar series, journal club, and ethics training;
  • publish research;
  • one summer off-site undergraduate research;
  • present at MARC Annual Colloquia;
  • K-12 outreach;
  • and graduate school preparation.




  • Attend SSU full-time with a major related to the biomedical sciences(Behavioral Analysis, Biology,Chemistry, Marine Science or Mathematics)
  • Be a Junior (as the program requires at 2 year commitment)
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Plan to pursue a Ph.D. and a career in biomedical research or behavior sciences
  • Demonstrate an interest in the advancement of underrepresented minorities in the sciences
  • Are citizens, noncitizen nationals or permanent residents of the United States
