Description

The Minority Biomedical Research Support is a program initiative funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), and is provided to minority/minority-serving educational institutions to increase the overall number of faculty, students, and investigators who are members of groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. A component of NIGMS is the Research Initiative for Science Enhancement.

 

The mission of the RISE program is to increase the number of minority/underrepresented individuals in biomedical research careers by preparing students for successful transition into biomedical-related graduate programs, ultimately leading to PhDs. Morgan State University’s program is targeted towards undergraduate students.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate students with strong research interest
  • Sophomore, junior, or in the beginning of their senior year. However, freshmen may also apply.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8
  • Major in one of the following:
    o Biology and related fields
    o Chemistry and related fields
    o Psychology
    o Sociology
    o Anthropology
    o Computer Science
    o Engineering
    o Mathematics
    o Physics/Engineering Physics
    o Nutrition Science
