For over 30 years, the Nemours Summer Undergraduate Research Program has been funding scholarships to undergraduate students for work on summer research projects. Fourteen scholarships are available this year: there are 5 basic and 5 clinical research projects funded by Nemours Biomedical Research at the Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE and 4 projects focusing on Health Equities funded by the Nemours Office of Health Equity and Inclusion in Newark, DE. Each scholarship recipient receives a $4300 monetary award. Current college students at the time of application are eligible. Participation is required throughout the 10-week, full-time program.
Scholarship recipients are matched with scientist/physician mentors according to student’s expressed interest in the projects, the student’s background, and interest in the student by the mentors. Enrichment activities integral to the program include research/clinical seminars, participation in student led activities such as a journal club, and opportunities for clinical shadowing. On the final day of the program, a mandatory symposium is held during which Summer Research Students present their research activities to the Nemours community, family, and friends.
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and interest in Basic and Applied Sciences, Health Disparities, Public Health, Epidemiology, Pre-Med, Healthcare or related fields.
