Would you enjoy the challenge of independent research while earning money? Have you considered a career in scientific research or teaching? Would you like to strengthen your credentials for admission to graduate school? Would you like to present your work at a local or national research conference? If you can answer "YES!" to these questions, then consider RISE. RISE is jointly sponsored by two of the nation's leading public research institutions -- Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), located under an hour from New York City. We choose 20-25 outstanding undergraduates to participate in cutting edge research in the sciences, math, and engineering under the guidance of prominent faculty mentors. All the while, you earn a substantial stipend, live on campus in free housing, and are reimbursed for travel to our campus.. We especially encourage application from underrepresented minorities, students from economically/educationally disadvantaged or non-traditional backgrounds, those who are the first generation in their families to attend college, and those who attend colleges without research opportunities.
U.S. citizens or permanent residents. We particularly encourage: groups underrepresented in the sciences, math, or engineering students from economically/educationally disadvantaged backgrounds first generation to attend college undergraduates attending schools that do not offer opportunities for independent research or mentoring by research-active faculty. Under unusual circumstances, we consider current first-years with outstanding credentials. Minimum GPA of B (3.0/4.0), although exceptions may be granted. Admission is highly selective and successful applicants have strong credentials.
Deadline: There is no hard deadline. Applications are reviewed in the order completed, and admission continues until all open spots have been filled.
