Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

Medical Scientist Training Program
Cincinnati, FED.
Type Academic Enrichment, Basic Science Research

Spend the summer in Cincinnati!  This MSTP Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program is designed and provides experience for individuals who have a potential interest in combined MD/PhD training.

Offering hands-on research training in a medical school setting, each intern is matched with a faculty advisor based on mutual research interests. The advisor and intern design a research project within the context of the current research in the advisors’ laboratory, which can result in a student-authored publication.

Each intern is also teamed with a physician who they can shadow on ward rounds, clinical service and view surgeries.

The internship provides a $4000 fellowship for 10 weeks of research. The program runs from May 26th – July 31st. Award notification begins in early March.

Matching Process

The matching process begins with specific information you provide us about interest and potential mentors. We use that criteria along with the availability of researchers to determine placement. Upon the investigators confirmation of your placement, we will send you his or her contact information and request that you consult with your mentor regarding any special arrangements that need to be made prior to starting in the lab.

The internships are designed for talented undergraduate sophomore or junior science majors who are interested in both basic science research and clinical medicine.
