Summer Undergraduate Research Program for Underrepresented Students

University of Pittsburgh, MSTP
Pittsburgh, PA.
Type Basic Science Research, Test Preparation
Dates 21 May 2018 - 27 Jul 2018
Deadline March 1, 2018

Description

Thank you for your interest in our Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP).  The SURP early deadline is February 1 and the final deadline is March 1.  The program will begin May, 21, 2018 and end July 27, 2018.

SURP provides an intensive 10-week research experience designed to help undergraduates perform outstanding cutting edge research at Pitt. Students are matched with research mentors, participate in weekly seminars and lab meetings and conduct laboratory based research.  Housing in a modern University dormatory is provided along with social activities that enable students to enjoy life in Pittsburgh.  At the program’s conclusion all students write up their work and give presentations on their projects.  If you are contemplating graduate school in the biomedical sciences, then SURP can help give you the experience needed to make an informed decision.

The program is administered by the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program (IBGP) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine – a premiere research center in the historic Oakland section of Pittsburgh. The School of Medicine provides an exceptional environment for students to gain research experience under the guidance of internationally recognized scientists.

Eligibility

The program is for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and is limited to disadvantaged students and minority groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences including African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanics, Native Americans and U.S.Pacific Islanders.
