This program is intended to identify ethnic minority medical students who have an
interest in psychiatric issues and provide experiences to foster this interest.
This fellowship would match a medical student with a mentor based on the following
- Interest of the medical student and the specialty of the mentor
- Practice setting (i.e. research or clinical)
- Geographic proximity of the mentor to the mentee
Applicants are encouraged to approach possible mentors, particularly those with
compatible interests or work.
This fellowship is designed to expose ethnic minority medical students to a setting where
they can work closely with a psychiatrist mentor. The emphasis is on clinical work with
underserved minority populations and mental health care disparities. Most work settings
will be inner-city or rural, preferably those dealing with psychiatric subspecialties,
particularly substance abuse and geriatrics.
