About this Site

Our history

ExploreHealthCareers.org’s mission is to help solve two urgent problems in U.S. health care:

  • The under-representation of minorities in the workforce
  • The shortage of health professionals in medically underserved communities

We hope to help build a stronger health care workforce by providing easy access to updated, peer-reviewed career descriptions that inspire and motivate students to find health careers that suit them. Our vision is to see the health professionals of tomorrow be highly skilled and motivated, and as diverse as the patients they serve.

The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation convenes a meeting of prominent health care leaders that leads to the launch of ExploreHealthCareers.org. The new site aims to address the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ projected fast-growing health care workforce need.

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) assumes leadership of ExploreHealthCareers.org. The organization begins using its subject matter expertise and interdisciplinary connections to guide tomorrow’s health care workforce.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awards ADEA a three-year grant to expand the site.

ADEA works in collaboration with Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (FASHP) to create a library of authoritative, up-to-date health care career content.

Health care becomes the industry with the fastest growing employment rate as projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
