Working conditions
These physicians typically work in private pediatric practices, children's clinics, or hospital pediatric departments where they see patients in scheduled appointments and sometimes provide hospital care. Work involves examination rooms designed for children, collaboration with parents and families, and maintaining regular office hours with some practices offering evening or weekend appointments and on-call coverage.
Academic requirements
This occupation requires a medical degree (MD or DO) followed by completion of a 3-year pediatrics residency program. State medical licensure and board certification in pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics are required. Some pursue additional fellowship training in pediatric subspecialties.
